Book Dedication for Catch a Falling Star:

In memory of Ian Lyons, who taught me about courageous faith.

June 23, 1995-April 27, 2009

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an external glory that far outweighs them all.”

(2 Corinthians 4:16-17 NIV)

Today’s post is a personal glimpse “Behind the Book.” I invite you to listen in as I talk with my long-time friend, Renee Lyons. Catch a Falling Star is dedicated to Renee’s son, Ian. The Lyons family experienced life not going according to plan in a heart-rending way — and chose to trust God through it all.

The Lyons have found joy, have chosen joy, in the midst of tremendous loss. April 27 marked four years since Ian went on ahead to heaven ahead of all of us. We all still miss him so, so much.

  2. Wow, Beth. As soon as I saw the box of Kleenex… Thank you for blessing and making us richer by sharing this, and thank you for so suitably dedicating your fine newest book to Ian.

As I shared, I prayed for many months about the dedication of Catch a Falling Star. This Vlog is only a portion of my interview with Renee … there is more to the story. But this at least gives people a glimpse of the story behind the story.

  3. Hi, Beth. Wow. I’m fighting back tears after listening to Renee’s count of her son’s battle. Thanks for sharing this courageous boy’s story with us. When I read the dedication page of Catch a Falling Star, I’ll be saying a prayer for the Lyons family.

Renee, my heart weeps for you and also praises God with you. It sounds to me like you’ve been blessed with a wonderful family. I’m glad y’all chose to lean on God’s strength through the rough journey that was set before you. His strength alone can pull us through our darkest days. Wonderful memories of your son, Ian, you shared with us will surely bring more smiles to your face through the years. I pray God continues to lay His healing hand on your family, bringing you comfort and renewed joy!

    Bless you!

    Andrea

  4. Beth and Renee,

Thank you for sharing about Ian today. You’ve left me with tears, but with the hope-filled reminder that God is GOOD. Even when we don’t understand His plans this side of heaven. God is good. May He continue to uphold you and strengthen the Lyons family.

  6. This is truly heartbreaking. Losing someone you love is one of the hardest things to go through. I’ll be keeping this family in my prayers. I know it happened a while ago, but the hole always remains. God is ever faithful, and I thank Him that He gives us strength to walk through these losses.
