The power of a key.
A lost key means things that are locked are left unopened. Puzzles are left unanswered. Things that should start — like a car or a music box — don’t.
Keys mean the difference between success and failure. Maybe even power and impotence.
Now reread today’s quote: Monday is the key to the week.
Is that true? Will something you do or say today open a door? Answer a question? Start something?

For me, this is an interesting question – since I’ve never worked a traditional job in which Monday was the start of the week! It was usually a seven-day-a-week evolution.
I have seen people who did have the opportunity to use Monday as the key to the week – and I saw both advantages and disadvantages. It could be a springboard, but a truly snafued Monday could derail the whole week.
I prefer to think of each moment as being the key to the next. Admittedly, it implies shorter horizons, but I’ve sometimes found that taking things moment-by-moment works better, both in terms of coping and in terms of accomplishment.

I think that’s a great perspective, Andrew. Moment-by-moment does make a difference.
I’ve never thought of Monday as a key to the week, but it makes a lot of sense. How Monday rolls can set the tone for the rest of my weeks. But, I’m also learning that how I respond to each situation, the perspective I see circumstances through is also the key that opens (or doesn’t open) opportunities that are coming after.

I think it’s interesting to see how people approach different days of the week: Oh, no, it’s Monday! Yay! It’s Wednesday! and T.G.I.F. It’s as if days have their own emotion-meter.
Funny…earlier this morning I was sort of mentally grumbling about having to start the workweek today…until I had the thought: “Melissa, your attitude today can affect the rest of your week for the good or for the bad. So pick one and pick wisely.” Then I read this post. 🙂
Maybe Monday is the Biblical ‘child we should raise up in good ways, that she will not depart from them’?

Hmmm, very interesting concept! I was just telling myself this morning to start my week off right. I guess it’s true that Monday can definitely set the tone for the whole week…though I think God is gracious and allows us to start over each and every day if we choose. 🙂

Yes, yes, Lindsay: God’s mercies are new every morning … Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday … etc., etc., etc.
I agree – my Mondays set the tone for the rest of the week. As a Bible-study author, it took me an embarrassing length of time to realize that my writing is only as good as my time with God. 🙁
Now, I don’t write on Mondays at all. I spend my day with God, focusing on my relationship with Him and on what He wants me to share through my writing the rest of the week.
It’s my favorite day of the week and I hate it when something interferes!
