I’m in love with the cover for my May 2014 release, Somebody Like You!
And yes, developing this cover included wonderful give and take with my editor and the talented people in the art department at Howard Books.
My heroine, Haley, is beautifully rendered — and there’s subtle symbolism woven into her depiction too. And once again, we’ve retained the title and author name style that was begun with Wish You Were Here and Catch a Falling Star. One more thing: I love the look of the Colorado landscape!
Somebody Like You asks the question: Can a young widow fall in love with her husband’s reflection?
In this beautifully rendered, affecting novel, a young widow’s world is shattered when she meets her late husband’s identical twin—and finds herself caught between honoring her husband’s memory and falling in love with his reflection.
Haley’s whirlwind romance and almost three-year marriage to Sam, an army medic, ends tragically when he is killed in Afghanistan. As she grapples with widowhood and the upcoming birth of her son, her attempts to create a new life for herself are ambushed when she arrives home one evening—and finds her husband waiting for her. Did the military make an unimaginable mistake when they told her that Sam had been killed?
After a twelve-year estrangement, Stephen hopes to make things right with his brother—only to discover Sam died without revealing Stephen’s existence to Haley. As Haley and Stephen struggle to navigate their fragile relationship, they are inexorably drawn to each other. Haley is unnerved by Stephen’s uncanny resemblance to Sam, and Stephen struggles with the issue of Haley loving him as Stephen—and not as some reflection of his twin. How can Haley and Stephen honor the memory of a man whose death brought them together—and whose ghost could drive them apart?
Somebody Like You reminds us that while we can’t change the past, we have the choice—and the power through God—to change the future and start anew.
In case you didn’t know, I’m a twin, which was one of the catalysts for this book. Any other twins out there?

Superb, Beth. Beautiful lead in, as always. So glad you’re allowed meaningful interchange re. covers–makes it all the more special and genuinely you. It’s getting close to time to pre-order!
Author
Thank you, once again, for all your support and encouragement! And yes, I do love the cover — and the story!
Such a pretty cover, Beth! I love it…just like I know I’m going to love the story inside!
Author
Thanks, Melissa …
but first, we’ll celebrate your upcoming release, shall we?
🙂
I didn’t know you were a twin!
Love the cover, and it’s for a strange reason. Um. I love that sweater and how long it is on her arms…LOL. I have a love for sweaters (some may say I’m addicted) and long monkey arms, so when I find one that fits like that it speaks COZY to me. So that’s what I immediately thought when I saw your cover.
Sounds like a GREAT read too! What a great question to try and conquer. That’s a pretty big ghost between them. Love it!

Susan:
Yes, I am a fraternal twin. My sister’s name is Brenda and we don’t look alike at all.
And I loved the whole look of that sweater too. Must be the long-arm thing for me too!!
Butting in, but wanted to say I like that about the sweater too. 🙂
Love the cover!! And I can’t wait to read yet another Beth Vogt novel. I loved the first two!
Author
Thank you, Lindsay.
It’s fun to share a new cover with readers! (And friends.)
I love your cover, Beth, and I can’t wait to read Haley’s story! (Love the plot already!)
My mother is a fraternal twin. 😉
Author
Another connection, Cynthia!
Love it!
🙂
Oh my goodness I love the premise of this story! What?! Can’t wait to read it. And I do love the cover. I think keeping the author name and title style similar is so smart. I noticed that with SMW’s Christiansen family series too.
I am not a twin, but I have written a story about them. 🙂 Probably stemmed from my love of the Sweet Valley High twins. lol
Author
Would love to hear more of your twin story idea, Jess!
I love this cover!!
And the premise of the story is sooooo good!! I can hardly wait to read it!
Author
I’m glad you do, JZ — because I do too!
🙂
I love the cover, Beth! And I’m equally hooked by the premise. 🙂
Author
Yay! So glad, Coleen!
It’s gorgeous! Now I am longing to read the book after that heart wrenching description.
Author
Anne … yes, it was quite a story to write. I love this story.
The cover is beautiful and I can’t wait to read Somebody Like You! Ironically, I married a twin AND my brother married a twin!
Author
Wow, Britney — there’s a story there!!
Beth, you must be so excited to see the work of your hands come to life on the cover. How wonderful! My Mom is a twin, but her twin was a boy. Fun!
Author
That is fun, Donna!
Dear Beth,
I have always been facinated by twins and would have loved to have had twins but that wasn’t in the cards for me and my husband. We did have two children though, and what are the odds that they would both grow up to marry twins. Our daughter, Britney Adams, married a wonderful man that is just like another son to us, and our son, Barrett, married a wonderful girl named Amy.
We just never know what life has in store for us and who will enter our lives but aren’t we blessed.
And since today is my birthday, all of our dear children have given me wonderful calls and rememberances and love today.
Love your work and your words.
Author
What a delight to have you join the conversation today, Melanie! Thank you so much!
And Happy Birthday!
🙂
No, when God made me he took one look and said, “We ain’t goin’ there agin’!”
Looks like an interesting premise – my about-to-be-shopped WIP actually has a similar theme, though with a doppelganger rather than a twin.
I am interested in the way some character traits, and appearance, can ‘repeat’.
I should mention our twin canine sisters, Reebok and Josie. They have never been separated – since birth. The form a kind of ‘composite dog’ that utilizes the profound intelligence that each possesses. They can outsmart me (which some say is no great accomplishment).
At night, they sleep in a cuddle-pile, rather like they might have dreamt in the womb of their mother.

I would love to see a photo of Reebok and Josie.
Really. I would.
I’ll email one to you. They’re hard to capture – they move so fast!
Josie and Reebok should be waiting in your inbox.
Along with a stowaway…Bella, in her wheelchair. Sorry, couldn’t resist – I am SO proud of her spirit!
Author
I love Josie and Reebok … and Bella.
Thank you soooo much!
It’s been a busy day, but I’m so glad I stopped by! What a beautiful cover, Beth. And Haley’s blonde hair, the brown scarf, the backdrop…just love it! And the premise sounds amazing. I am so eager to read this story.
No twins in my real life family tree, but there’s a set in my WIP.
Love the cover and I love, love, love the blurb you shared. This is going on my wishlist!
Intriguing plot, Beth. Can’t wait to read “Someone Like You”. Once again, great cover. Full of personality.
Oops! “Somebody Like You”. So sorry, Beth–very long day.
Oh my gosh, Beth, I got chills reading the summary. I can’t wait! And you’re right, the cover is compelling. She’s beautiful, as well as natural. I love the combination. And silly to mention, I guess, but I really like her scarf. Wish I could ask where she got it.
Love this for both the twin angle and the widow issue … personally familiar with both topics.
Great cover, Beth! Sounds like a great, heart-wrenching story!
Cheers,
Sue
Oh Beth, I love it! I just know I’m going to love the story even more. 😉
Love this Beth! Looks like I could reach out and touch her. Love the colors and the way the light plays off her hair. The wildflowers are a nice touch, too. Can’t wait for the reading part!
Hi Beth,
Love the cover of SLY! Of course I’m looking forward to reading your third book, especially after reading this blog article. Wow, what a story!
Is your twin identical to you, like Sam and Stephen in your book? Is your twin an author too? Any chance y’all will write a book together?
Blessings to you both!
Andrea

My twin sister and I are fraternal. And no, she’s not a writer. She’s got a brain for numbers though, which I don’t.
I guess between the two of you English and Math are both covered. 🙂
Love this cover and can’t wait to read the book!
I’m the mother of fraternal twin daughters, who like you and Brenda, are as different as can be–which is why they get along so well. Two of the bouncy, passionate one would be one too many. 😉 The even-keeled daughter is a great compliment.
