“I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.”
Thinking “I can” gets you nowhere — no matter how many times you mentally repeat those words.
At some point, thinking has to become plowing … I mean, doing.
I’m stating the obvious today, aren’t I? But how many “I think I cans” have we walked away from? Our thoughts never become actions. The field of possibility remains unplowed. No dreams are planted. Nothing grows.
Granted, moving from mulling to just doing it is hard. It’s risky business. We could fail. Or we could succeed, which brings its own set of demands.
But here’s the question: Do we want to look back and see unplowed fields in our lives? Is life lived out loud by thinking we can … or by getting our hands and clothes dirty by doing what needs to be done to prove we can?
In Your Words: What moves you from thinking to “plowing”?

It’s been a horrible week; tomorrow will be worse. There is pain piled on pain, and a lesser man would quail.
But I will flog myself forward. I don’t think I can, I KNOW I can. An I will make it so by sheer force of will.
Because I have nothing, absolutely nothing to lose.

Andrew,
You will never hear me say that you don’t get up day after day and plow your fields.
You are a do-er. A fighter. Someone you demands that life is productive. That it has meaning.
Praying for you.
Beth, thanks so much, and I really need the prayers. Worst night on record, and the pain this day can only surpass that.
Morphine or a bullet would seem reasonable, but the first’s unavailable, and the second’s ungentlemanly.
There are fairly similar verses in Proverbs too about preparing your fields before you build your house, etc., and that is such sound good advice. Any degree of forward motion creates momentum to take us further. That’s a great quote, Beth, and wish you an amazing day with MUCH forward progress in all areas.
