I am proud to be an American.
I am thankful to be an American.
And on Wednesday, July 4, I will celebrate being an American.
America is not perfect — but I don’t think it was ever set up to be so. This country was established on ideals such as courage and freedom and equality, but imperfect people founded this country … and imperfect people lead this country … and imperfect people live in this country.
But America is my country — and I will take it, as is, hoping for better things tomorrow.

The people who point to other countries and say that “they do THIS better than Americans!” omit the fact that when those other countries are threatened, they will wash away their fear with American blood.
How will I celebrate? In a perfect world, Jack Daniels, shooting AR-15s into the air, and cheap cigars. In the world of pancreatic cancer, just the AR-15s and cheap cigars.
And what the heck, I’m gonna die anyway, so “Call for Dr. Daniels, STAT!”
Yes, I know. Reprobate, and I revel in it.

Lori: My daughter, Christa, found this quote. It’s perfect for the 4th of July.
That is a perfect quote. As a teen growing up I typically idealized family members or new friends and had to deal with reality as I discovered they had some of the same flaws I did. The same is true of our nation. When I was young, I saw the U.S. as perfect, it could do no wrong. Maturity is part of seeing the imperfection, loving anyway and praying more plus seeing what I can possibly do to bring/be part of the needed changes.
