I’m blessed to live in Colorado where autumn is a visible event. By that I mean the leaves on the trees change color and fall … the whole seasonal rite of passage. I lived in Florida for eight years so I know what it’s like to reside in a place where seasons come and go without any real visible signs of change.
So now as I take my morning walks with my friend Mary, I’m savoring the reds and the golds and the oranges decorating so many of the trees along the way. I especially love when the vivid colors are set against a Colorado blue sky … the perfect backdrop.
I don’t know why, but I’m enjoying autumn more this year than in years past. The crispness of the morning air. The colors. The cool breeze wafting through my bedroom window at night. Maybe there doesn’t need to be a reason … an explanation … for my heightened appreciation for this time of year. All I need to do is be more aware. And be thankful. And that’s enough.
In Your Words: What’s autumn like where you live? And what’s your favorite season of the year?

The main thing I notice about autumn is the change of the light; there comes a specific day on which the light of summer is gone.
And as for a favourite season…my favourite is called today, because tomorrow may never come.

Andrew: That’s an astute observation, noticing how the light changes.
And yes, we all need to enjoy each and every day we have.
Fall is my favorite time of year. I love to go RVing and it’s perfect with a little cooler weather. Our autumn is not going to be very pretty. We’re going through a drought here in West Alabama and everything including our grass is brown and crunchy.

I didn’t realize you were an RVer … How fun that must be to get to travel and see different locales.
And I understand about drought. We experienced that when we first moved to Colorado because the state was experiencing several years of drought.
Autumn is my favorite season weather wise. It also happens to be my birthday. I think of the smells of fall oak leaves and the crunch of acorns beneath your feet. Fall festivals, State Fair and sitting around our outdoor firepit on cool nights. I enjoy watching the change of the fall leaves, which are accented by our deep green Carolina pines. The crispness of the air as the temperatures drop and ACC football with three major teams right here. University of North Carolina, Go Tarheels! North Carolina State University and Duke as well.
