When I wear certain clothes I feel most like me. It’s not just that these clothes are comfortable … It’s that I am comfortable being me when I wear them. I put on a certain dress or a certain sweater or a certain pair of red cowboy boots and I think, “Yeah. That’s me, all right.”
I’ve bought clothes because I was told I should. I’ve bought clothes because something was on sale. I’ve bought clothes to make myself feel better (retail therapy, anyone?). It’s great to walk away from all the “should” and “have to” items and buy something because it’s “me.”

I’m visiting writer Mary Vee’s blog today, talking about how my life hasn’t gone according to plan. I hope you stop by and join the conversation.

At this stage it’s a comfortable black and red large check shirt for our small farm, mostly because I see what it means to my grandchildren to have happy family time there. Going to put it on again today.

Connecting clothes with happy memories … that’s delightful, Dee! (Or should I say “Dee-lightful”?)
I bought a pair of black leather cowboy boots years ago at a thrift store for 22$. They’d barely been worn. And, they actually DON’T hurt my feet. Which is a huge deal when one has (flamingly bad)nerve damage in one’s feet. When I wear them, I feel like all that and a bag of chips. I plan to wear them at the posh dinner at ACFW, with a black dupionni silk skirt and a teal duppioni silk blouse.

Can’t wait to see your cowboy boots, Jennifer! Maybe I’ll break mine out again!
Still wrestling with this one. A lot of opinions spouted around me. Trying to do what’s me, but I hear voices telling me the ‘oughts.’

Understood. I can still hear those voices at times too … but I try to stuff a sock in ’em.
I love my black stretchy pants with a white top and a black and white scarf. I have several versions. I think I could live my whole life in these outfits and be perfectly content. With that thought and this post in mind, maybe I’ll clean out my closet. Thanks, Beth, and Happy Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day to you too, Kim! And I love my yoga pants — they are the perfect around-the-house, around-town item.
I’m speaking at a ladies luncheon in a week and also part of the “modeling” group and when I went to buy something to wear, the sales clerk showed me everything from fancy-dancy to flowing and geometrical. Nothing really me. Went back the next day and found a pair of black slacks and a white dress shirt. Now, that’s me. lol

Are you wearing any of your handmade jewelry, Pat? That’s also you!
Oh, too fun!!
Blue jeans. Heels. Scarves. Big earrings & bracelets! Jeans because…well, duh! They’re comfy! Heels – not too high, mind you – make all of my 5’2″ feel tall and sassy, but they have to hug my short, wide, high-arched feet juuust right. Scarves are my $10 way of getting new outfits out of last year’s clothes…and of intentionally seeking to break my basic black only habit. Big earrings are just plain fun! And bracelets, lots of mismatched bracelets, are a new-found delight for the little girl in me that can’t just stop at one! (And I’ve discovered that they’ll keep fidgety grandbabies fascinated for hours!)
Now that I’m all dressed up…want to go for coffee? You could wear your red boots!
Author
Would love to meet for coffee — and you are a free-spirit when it comes to clothes. Love it!!
When I wear my number 34 Walter Payton home jersey, it’s an expression of who I am–A CHICAGO BEARS FAN!

Oh No You Didn’t! Really, Dave? Really? You went there?!
😉
You are so right about feeling like yourself in certain clothes.
Jeans and a tee, or my favorite chambray shirt are my favorite go-to’s. Boots. If I’m dressing it up, a nice tailored white shirt–still looking for that perfect one with French cuffs and generous collar. Turquoise is my feel-good jewelry … amethyst if I’m feeling mysterious. 🙂
Great boots, by the way!
I am so a jeans or yoga pants person! But I find myself pinning a lot of outfits I think are cute–but don’t ever actually wear. Not sure if that means I’m still searching for my perfect cute but comfortable ensemble. 🙂 I like your red boots, Beth!!
