It’s springtime in the Rockies here in Colorado.
That means we are enjoying flowers blooming … and we’re also still dealing with cold weather. Wind. Snow. Ice. That sort of thing.
After living here for almost 18 years, I’ve gotten used to it. After all, my daughter, Amy, played girls spring soccer in both middle school and high school — and more of her games were canceled because of snow and ice storms than anything else. The first season I was shocked. After that, I laughed and got used to watching Amy playing soccer while sitting in my car with the heater running.
I love the thought that flowers are the way the earth laughs. Each different type of flower represents all the different types of laughter. A field of flowers? It’s a chorus of laughter that refreshes your spirit.
In Your Words: What’s your favorite flower? What makes you laugh? What’s springtime like in your corner of the world?

My favorite flower? …uh…I don’t have an unfavorite flower. 🙂 They are all beautiful. And I’m so glad Spring is here in North Mississippi!! I could do handsprings.
I LOVE that quote. It isn’t spring yet here in MN. Our neighbors have several brave stunted daffodils. I have seen nothing else anywhere yet, not even the expensive hardy tulip and narcissus bulbs I planted yet (still hoping), BUT I fly to a warmer place next Wens. Favorite flower? A few. One all-time favorite is pink & white rubrum lilies.
I’m with Pat. I don’t have an unfavourite.
The ones here are small, delicate and evanescent wildflower blooms, smaller than a fingernail, and all the more precious for that.
I don’t smile often, much less laugh. But I did laugh out loud (and painfully) at a description of the CH-47 ‘Chinook’ helicopter…the one with big three-bladed rotors at each end of a boxy body.
Unfortunately, the best way I can pass it on is to say…two palm trees doing something unmentionable to a dumpster. (The original is perfectly succinct, and when I heard it, tears came to my eyes.)
