Some truths are more harsh than others.
Some people avoid the word “sin.” They consider it outdated. Old-fashioned. We don’t sin anymore. We make mistakes. Get tripped up. Commit an error.
But I prefer to call a sin a sin because it reminds me that my wrong action has wounded my soul — and possibly someone else’s soul, too.
I want to remember that I’m a spiritual being having a human experience. (With a nod to French Philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin for that thought.) The ongoing battle? To not let my wants and desires rule the day — rule me — and to acknowledge who I am and Whose I am. To choose strength, not weakness. To step away from the void and onto the firm ground of truth.
In Your Words: What one thing helps you walk away from voids, resist sin, and remember that you are a spiritual person having a human experience?

Oh, Beth, this is easy. With my possession of moral strength of Lancelot, the physical perfection of Galahad, and the stoic acumen of Masashige Kusunoki, sin hides in a corner and cries like a little girl when it hears my name.
Normally, I’d say I’m kidding, but I’m kinda not. In this last and greatest battle, which is tonight brutal beyond reckoning, there is no void; there is a stark demarcation between the light of hope and the black abyss of despair, and one step wrong…and it’s over, my heart isn’t coming back.
This dying is an exaltation of the spirit, a bright mirror that I can hold up, yea, with trembling hands, to focus God’s glory on the darkness, and thereby dispel it.
I would not trade this experience for anything.
I’m living the dream, Beth, and I mean every word of that to the bottom of my heart, the depths of my soul
And I’m dancing in the storm, so would you, and your readers, care to board the Soul Train and dance with me?
Carl Carlton is singing ‘Everlasting Love’! What better excuse for joy!

Andrew: I know that your experience is most likely crystallizing a lot of truth for you–dispelling darkness with light. Not all of us live in the moment-to-moment truth of life and death as you do, my friend.
Great post, Beth. Such a good question too. I could totally dissect it. But I think it boils down to I don’t want to hurt God’s heart. Or those around me. These mindsets help me (usually) choose not to sin.
