I love Christmas music! During the month of December, I’m sharing some of my favorite Christmas songs with you. O Come, Emmanuel is filled with such longing — and I love this instrumental rendition by The Piano Guys.

In Your Words: The meaning of the word Emmanuel is so significant: God with us. What makes you feel close to God during the Christmas season?

I love hearing a really, and I mean really, good choir. Even if it’s watching the flash mobs on YouTube, I will become overwhelmed with the beauty of Christ and what He has done for me.
WoW. One of the most beautiful renditions of O Come, Emmanuel! Thanks for sharing this, Beth. Merry Christmas!!!!
When I hear this song – and I love it – I think of the terrible weight of responsibility placed in a baby’s tiny hands.
And then I think of the Baby, cooing and giggling, playing with that weight as he would with a bright, bouncy ball.
Not totally Christmas, but “God with us” is what I always remember thinking of being in Israel w/ a friend, as Bible college teachers, not having much $. We bought 1-way tickets across the Sea of Galilee planning to walk until sundown when the Jewish buses would run again. The guide on the boat became concerned, talked to an Amer. pastor heading up the tour group on board besides us. The pastor came telling us their day’s itinerary & inviting us to join them. I asked what he’d need to charge. “Can you give us one smile?”
Later seated on Mt. of Beatitudes, rdg. those verses, mine was, “Blessed are those who hunger & thirst for righteousness, for you shall be filled and abundantly satisfied.” I burst into tears. It was like Jesus himself strode before us, lifting his arm to sweep around the unforgettable scenery, saying, “Welcome, this is my home, let me show you around.” Such a sense of being loved and taken care of. That’s Emmanuel for me–God with us every single day.
Thanks, Beth. This one made me slow down and just soak it in. May God bless you and your family this Christmas season. He just blessed me through this.
