Have you ever gotten an irritating song stuck in your head? You hear it over and over again …
Yeah, that kind of repeat is not a good thing.
But there are times when a certain song uplifts my mood or touches my heart or even inspires me as I write. And I pull the song up on Spotify and sync it so it plays over and over and over and over again.
And that kind of repeat is a very good thing.
What if you could plan a day filled with good repeats? What kinds of things would you include?
- Laughter
- Breakfast, lunch, and dinner with family or good friends
- Time spent at a favorite location — a mountain retreat or at the beach
- Favorite songs
- Favorite books
- Favorite movies
Too often we go through our day repeating ourselves … doing the same things over and over again. But we’re not intentional enough to repeat the good things that encourage our hearts, challenge us to be better, heal our brokenness.

I wanted to share that my debut women’s fiction novel, Things I Never Told You, releases in 12 days! Yep, getting a bit excited about this, even as I stare down my May 1 deadline for book 2 in the series. You can read the first chapter and get a glimpse of my “Little Women gone wrong” story from Tyndale House Publishers.

In these days of pain and wrath, I have a song on repeat in my head. I tried to be reasonable and understanding, surrendering my will to that of the Almighty, but I got pushed too far.
The harder death comes for me, the harder I’m fighting, and to hell with the consequences.
The song is Soundgarden’s ‘Live To rise”, and here it is:
If I may be allowed a postscript…over the last five hours I journeyed to the Valley of the Shadow of Death, felt those fell wings brush past, and returned, perhaps not wiser but surely shaken.
I did, however, Live To Rise.

Andrew, you seem to know that path all to well, and yet the Lord so far has not called you all the way home to him. His purpose for you here on earth is not yet finished. Praying for you.

Andrew: One good thing you repeat is perseverance and bravery — well, that’s two good things! Praying for you, my friend.
It’s far too easy to let the negative messages repeat in my mind. Those never fail to discourage me. Songs I love are those that point me back to God. “Just Be Held,” by Casting Crowns was on repeat after I tore my ACL and had a lot of stress in my life. “Even If” is another song I love.
Repeats of coffee or a meal with good friends is a definite in my life. Good repeats often include time with good people.

Jeanne: Thanks for sharing those songs. “Even If” is a wonderfully encouraging song!
Oh, girl, I needed this today. I love it when encouraging messages like this one touch my heart, even when I’ve received great news lately and been in a positive mood and been doing/experiencing good things. I can’t share yet what my great news is (it hasn’t been completely confirmed yet, but I’m hopeful), but it will be something that is a good repeat. Things I like to be intentional about repeating are:
* listening to Steven Curtis Chapman (and other Christian artists’) CDs
* reading TINTY and other Vogt novels (There are other repeatable books in my list of favorites, but you know, this is my space to gush about your books.)
* eating delicious foods (especially cheesecake)
* diving into God’s Holy Word
* praying for my friends and family
* enjoying nature (birds, scenery, cool breezes, etc.)
* exercising (even though it’s not always fun)
There are a million more wonderful things I’d love to list, but that’d be an article or fifty all their own. Have a blessed day, my friend.

What a great “repeatables” list, Andrea — and I’m eager to hear your great news!
