“Think and wonder. Wonder and think.” ~Dr. Seuss, American writer & poet
Here’s the wonderful thing about being a writer: It has forced me to think and wonder.
Some days it feels as if all I do is think and wonder. Wonder and think. (And, no, I don’t just wonder why I decided to become a writer, although there are those moments too.)
Sometimes I am thinking and wondering until I find an answer — like what happens next in my work-in-progress (WIP) or how do I solve the problem my hero is having? Yes, it’s wonderful to be able to solve my fictional characters problems for them. Real life isn’t always that easy, but then again, I don’t get to pre-plan my problems like I get to do for my hero and heroine.
I like answers in my real life. But there are times I am content to just think … and wonder … and leave it at that. I’ve learned that, no, I don’t have all the answers. And that growing up means accepting that reality, along with the reality that God isn’t always going to tip his hand and tell me his plans for me (even as he promises that his plans are designed to give me a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11)
In Your Words: It’s Friday. What have you been thinking and wondering about this week? Have you found your answers — or are you content to think … and wonder … and trust?

Nope. Lots of unanswered q’s in my life. I take great comfort in verses that remind me that He is God and His ways are unsearchable.
Yet in the same breath, if we want to know this God, scripture tells us if we search for Him with our whole heart, we will find Him. Still, that doesn’t mean we will fully understand Him. And ultimately, I find that very comforting.
I’m with you, Katie!
You took that thought all the way around the loop I usually go, Katie.
🙂
I’m content to think … and wonder … and trust … and go forward!
Oh, the places you’ll go, Dee … the places you’ll go.
In my mature years (mostly now), I do go through hard times. This week has been difficult – but I went to bed last night and kept repeating, “It will work out, it will work out.” And I slept pretty well. Where one opportunity might crash and burn, another becomes apparent.
Karen,
Sorry to hear it’s been a rough week.
And sometimes I have to talk to myself too … remind myself of the truth. Last week I kept repeating, “God is bigger than all of this.”
Thinking and wondering if I’ll ever be finished with my book! When it’s published one day, I’ll probably pick it up and see a sentence and want to change it!
Yes, Pat, you probably will!
😉
Ah, Beth, you always make me wonder AND think. 🙂 This week I’ve been thinking about how I need to prioritize my life. I have put too much emphasis in some areas and not enough in others. And I think that definitely affects a multitude of things, like my attitude and my success.
Priorities:
Here’s what I’ve learned. It’s never as easy as 1,2,3.
It’s all about how to juggle 1,1, and oh, yeah, another 1.
Most the time I really want answers!! 🙂 But I do think God is teaching me to trust more and more…it’s just plain a more peaceful place to be.
Trust is hard … and peaceful at the same time.
And it’s not a one time decision, either.
I can relate to thinking and wondering all the time. This week I’ve been wondering if something someone is working on for me will ever get done. I’m losing a little faith that it will at the moment. LOL
OOoh, tough one to be thinking and wondering when you’re not in charge.
But then, that’s life, isn’t it?
I ask the question on my blog today…what I’ve been thinking and wondering about. Pretty sure God’s been revealing an answer, but I’m so curious what others think.

I’m heading over to answer your Friday question very soon. I have definite feelings about that one!
It seems I’m always thinking and wondering about something. Whether it’s how to handle the latest behavior change one of the kids tosses at me, how to make my characters better in my writing, how to keep up with everything I feel like I should be keeping up with…..I’m learning that I can trust God with each of these life questions. He always gives me the answer I need in the right time. The answer may not be as indepth as I’d like, but it’s always enough. 🙂
Yes, Jeanne, you are a thinker. But you also are a listener — and you are good with the answers too.
Beth, thanks for your thoughtful posts that always send us away with new coins in our pocket.
Enjoy “jingling that change,” Patti!
🙂
You’ve got me thinking and wondering!
Ah — that was the plan.
😉
Wondering and thinking – so vital for writers! Both are seeking modes. And nope, I still have lots of questions, too. Another vital tool, because as writers we get to offer answers.
I’ve often come away from your blog, Hydrated Living, thinking and wondering, Donna.
In a good way.
Since I lost my voice this week, I’ve been thinking and wondering a lot. I’ve been content to trust and grateful my not many people called — because I couldn’t talk anyway.
