I so often look at Friday as the end of the week — Thank God it’s Friday! — I forget that it’s a new day all in it’s own right.
A wonderful day, as Maya Angelou said on May 17, 2013.
I’m still adjusting to the reality that we’ve lost her voice, her insights, her courage.
Today, I wanted to share this quote that was featured in “Maya Angelou’s Guide to Life in 12 Tweets” shared by Today.com:

I’ve taught chapters from her Why the Caged Bird Sings quite a few times in Freshman Comp., great stuff, but wasn’t aware of this quote. Like it–great take on each new day as a fresh gift from God. It helps me resolve to see/embrace this day as one I’ve never seen before.

I like the hope in this quote, too. It just shakes the remnants of yesterday from my perspective.
Maya Angelou spoke at a conference I attended once and she was a wonderful and gracious speaker. I love this quote and like Dee, hadn’t seen it before. And as I close my eyes and readjust my thinking, yes! this is a wonderful day.

How fun that you were able to here Maya Angelou speak at a conference, Pat! I bet she was delightful and inspiring.
I used to be pretty good about seeing each day as something new, and greeting it with enthusiasm…and it really irritated people around me. They tried to beat me down.
Didn’t work.
Now it’s harder, because I don’t really have ‘new days’; physical circumstances have me on a 24-hour schedule, and sunrise simply means the end of dark, rather than a new day. It’s just a continuation of effort.
So I try to focus on the moments, and to be aware of what I’m doing, and what I’m thinking…banishing the negative, and nurturing the positive and hopeful in the continuum of time.

Part of what helps me find the wonderful in each day is time with the Lord in the morning. When I go into a day having spent time with Him, it’s easier to find the wonderful, even in the difficulties of a day.
