My debut novel, Wish You Were Here, became a “real” book just over a month ago. I was with a group of close writing friends when best-selling author Rachel Hauck found the first official copy of WYWH at a Charleston, South Carolina Barnes and Noble.
I appreciate each reviewer who participated in the Litfuse blog tour for WYWH, and hope you take the time to read their thoughts about the book. I especially enjoyed it when blogger Michelle Sutton said WYWH “… was deep and at the same time it made me laugh out loud numerous times!” and that Amanda said WYWH “packs a punch and is loaded with wisdom.”
I had an overwhelming response to the iPad giveaway! The winner of the iPad2, a signed copy of Wish You Were Here, and a $15 iTunes gift card is:

Congratulations, Danielle!
I wonder if she knows yet?

This is one of my romantic moments, at the time it wasn’t all that funny, it was down right embarrasing, but we laugh about it today. When my hasband and I were dating we were probably on our 3rd or 4th date and he wanted to go to the movies. I was tired and I wanted to stay home and play monopoly or something. But, there was a good movie at the drive-in, (Oh, how I miss the drive-ins)! Anyway, we went to the drive-in and I fell asleep. In doing so I spilled my drink all down the front of his trowsers and somehow ended up with mustard from my hot dog all over my face. You see I was the only girl with 4 brothers and it was my duty every morning to make sure they were up, dressed and on the school bus, so it was always early to bed and early to rise. It is funny now, but back then I was so embarrased that I wanted to just crawl in a hole somewhere. The thing about it was, the movie was a romantic movie, and one that I had wanted to see. I just knew that after that he would never ask me out on another date, but 40 years later we still laugh about the time that his shirt and pants tried to drink my coke and my face tried to eat my hot dog. Needless to say he will never let me forget about it.
I love that photo of you, Susie & Rachel, and the relationships it represents. My funniest moment was when my finance took me home to meet his mother. His family had poor teeth, mine are great. He said, “Mother, meet Delores. Now bring me a pencil,” and I bit it in two like a beaver, as I had once before showing him my strong teeth. She opened her arms and said, “My dear, welcome to the family.” Our two sons both have great teeth and so far, so do the grandchildren.
Oh. My. Word.
Dee … the people you meet …
😉
It’s so cool to see how much fun you’re having with your debut!
~ Wendy
Gotta have fun, Wendy.
You know that!
Love that photo! I’m not sure if the most romantic moment was when my DH–on our first date pulled the car down a deserted road. I remember thinking, “Serial killers do exist at Bible colleges!” But instead, he helped me out of the car and we danced on that road. If I tell you to what song, it’ll kill the story. LOL
Or it might have been when he surprised me at our wedding by singing to me a song he’d written lyrics & music to. 🙂
Swoon.
Absolutely.
Dancing together on a deserted road?
Worthy of a scene in a novel, Jessica!
Congratulations to Danielle! 🙂
Okay, one of my worst romantic moments was being asked out on a date by a guy who seemed (emphasis here) pretty nice. He picked me up in his old station wagon (I could live with this). He took me out to eat, and we enjoyed dinner together. Then, he dropped the bomb that he didn’t have money to pay for dinner. So guess who paid? After we left the restaurant, he decided to take me to meet some of his friends. We spent the remainder of the evening at a home in the mountains, and they all smoked and talked. So exciting for one of my first dates ever. Need I say I, uh, never said yes to him again? 🙂
P.S. Loved your post on Seekerville, Beth!
Jeanne:
D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R.
Reminds me of the guy who invited me out on a picnic.
Then told me what to pack for the picnic.
Then showed up for the date high.
Yep, high.
Stupid me, I got in the car with him.
The date lasted all of, um, 20 minutes before I remembered I had something I had to do — other than be on a date with him.
LOL, my friend. Now. Not then. 🙂
Oh fun, Beth! Okay, my most favorite of worst romantic moments is a letter I received in the mail once…from a guy I’d been pen pals with through school or something as a kid. I received this letter out of the blue in college after not talking to him for, oh, maybe a decade…? The letter talks about how he found me online (slightly scary) and how amazingly wonderful I am (slightly nice) and how he’d like to reconnect (slightly, well, okay, I guess)…I get to the end of the letter and it says:
“So, I would like to ask if you would consider marrying me. I can willingly get a green card and move to the United States. Please let me know how you feel about this.”
WHAT?!?!
Okay, actually there was nothing romantic at all about the moment except that it was, in fact, a wedding proposal. My first. My second came from a college professor. In front of the class. (I was in on the joke.)
For a girl who isn’t yet married, I guess I’ve had my fair share of proposals.
Melissa, you had me laughing out loud. That marriage proposal is almost on par with Elizabeth Bennett’s first in Pride and Prejudice. 🙂
Melissa …
You do live the life, don’t you?
But I want to hear more about this “in on the joke” college professor marriage proposal …
So, I don’t even remember what the point of the joke was but somehow it tied into class…and the professor and I had always had a really good rapport. So before class he pulls me aside and goes, “Melissa, I’m going to do something crazy today and it’s going to involve you. Be warned.” During class, he comes to my desk, gets down on one knee and gives the most hilarious and awesome proposal…and at first people are flabbergasted…you can hear the gasps…but then people realize I’m not crying from sentiment but from laughter and chaos breaks loose…
Looking back, it was possibly on the brink of unprofessional of that professor. But it was hilarious. And whatever point he was trying to make, well, I’m guessing he made it…
He never even said what the point was?!
Melissa, that’s hilarious! When I worked at the historic site (that I mentioned on my vlog today) I had three proposals all from Senior Citizens who were convinced I would be perfect for their son, grandson & nephew! 🙂
I’m so happy you had a great response to your giveaway, Beth!
When my husband and I had been dating for two months I was invited to a family reunion at his parent’s lake home. Dave and I snuck away for a couple hours with a canoe and paddled to an island. When we came back (preface: I have little canoe experience), he pulled up to the dock and when I stepped out the canoe floated under the dock and I lost my balance and fell backwards into the lake. Needless to say, his family remembered me from that day forward and all I could do was laugh it off with the rest of them. Three interesting facts: 1) We were only seventeen, 2) my shirt floated above my head in the water and I gave his family a great show and 3) he said I impressed him with the grace I displayed afterwards (especially for a teenager). I think that’s how I hooked him! 😉
ROTFL!
So sorry I am laughing at your expense, Gabrielle …
I am so happy your story started with a splash and ended with a happily ever after!
Looks like romantic things have to do with singing (see Jess’s reply!). I’m a singer, but my husband is not. Still, I like his voice. When he proposed to me, he sang me “That’s all I ask of you” from Phantom of the Opera. Pair that with the decorated bridge (think lights and flowers) over a stream on a golf course…major swoon.
Romantic is right.
I love that song!
That’s a beautiful story, Lindsay! My husband also proposed to me on a bridge, in a park that runs along the Mississippi.
Mom I love you and I’m so proud of you! I love this pic of you with your book and friends!
OK I have a worst AND best romantic moment!
The worst would be: When I was only 18 I had a myspace account and started talking to a soldier who was in Afghanistan. We seemed to have a lot in common, except for the fact that he was 25, had already been married twice (widowed the first time and divorced the second). When he came home to the states he was stationed at Ft. Carson here in the Springs and asked to meet me. When we met, it had just been Valentine’s day, and he brought me a gift. A STUFFED CAMEL! It was quite cheesy and I don’t know why I even kept it, but after a while, I actually sold it at a garage sale for $5!
Most romantic moment: On my wedding day, I remember walking down the aisle towards my husband and being so entirely happy! When we got to look at our wedding photos, there was a picture of him where he looks overwhelmed and speechless. When he saw it, he said, “That was the moment I saw you and I literally could not breathe. I was trying to smile, but you just blew me away.” It still makes me melt when I see that picture. 🙂
I’ve been there for both of those episodes.
The worst one … yeah, won’t ever want to repeat that.
The second: I will never forget the look on Nate’s face as he watched you walk down the aisle. I was so amazed, I forgot to watch you!
I must be brain dead since I can’t think of a single funny or disastrous or best romantic moment. Will have to come back later. lol
Make sure you come back, Pat!
🙂
Now I know why I write suspense. lol
My favorite romantic moment was with my hubby when he was simply “my boyfriend”.
We met thru an online dating site and we emailed for a month before meeting. The day before our first date, I sent him an email that was supposed to say “be careful you don’t steal my heart too quickly”…but his reply of “I didn’t think it was going to be that kind of date ;o)” left me confused. I emailed him back to ask what that meant and he told me to scroll down to read the message I had sent him. Typing too fast, I forgot the “r” in heart and had, instead, told him not to steal my “heat too quickly”.
I was mortified…but it all worked out because, 11 years later, I can safely say he stole me completely: heart, heat and all. haha
Hahahahaha …
Typos will get us every time, Bina!
The Case of the Pink Panther *movie* starring Peter Sellers. I actually found the whole movie on YouTube in 10 segments a moment ago looking for the complete title. The music is great.
A neighbor girl said I could come to the movies with them. I was excited. But… “You have to sit by my boy cousin. His family is visiting us this weekend.” Not good. I considered myself too young to date and that didn’t sound good to me at all.
Amid popcorn and loud laughing on my part, he didn’t stand near me when we left!
Don’t know if you could call that an unromantic time.
Definitely disappointing.
And, yeah, for that time, unromantic.
My family loves The Pink Panther series. We have the complete DVD set.
Best Romantic Moment:
My DH & I took a trip to N. Arkansas to celebrate our 5 th anniversary before he went into basic training. We stayed in a cozy cabin with a fireplace and enjoyed every minute of it. While the snow fell outside, we snuggled up and drank our coffee. To this day when I drink coffee with Caramel Vanilla creamer in it, I am taken back to that getaway. I am SO thankful for that trip because for the next five years of his enlistment he was gone for more than three because of deployments and a tour to Korea.
Saluting another military spouse, Jamee!
Thank you to your husband for his service — and to you for your sacrifice too.
Loved your book! Was actually part of the blog tour for it :o)
One of my romantic moments with, my now husband, was when he and I were just friends. I had an office job that was kind of depressing since I had a little cubicle with NO windows anywhere in the room. And I was quite vocal about how much of a bummer my grey walls were to me. He was one of my best friends so had to hear all about it…how fascinating right ha
As a surprise for me to brighten up my desk, he took a bunch of photos from adventures we had had together and with friends. Like white water rafting etc and cut them up and made a collage out of them with the year of the summer they had all happened in to brighten up my desk. I didn’t even realize that he “LIKED” me like that but that kind of helped me realize and we ended up married down the road so I think that one little collage helped get our friendship moving in the romance direction lol
Also when he proposed to me was really romantic 😉
Oh, I love this, Jenny.
But, really, such a cliffhanger …
proposal story, please.
(And I am so glad you loved WYWH!)
I reviewed your book and it was awesome! Anyway, for a romantic time, I would love to go to the beach. My hubby and I have not been anywhere romantic so this is a wish 😉
Hi, Alicia!
I love the beach too. A walk along the sand and surf is so romantic –especially at sunset!
Thank you for the encouraging words about WYWH!
The best was when my husband proposed, it was just lovely 🙂
I love proposal stories.
My husband asked me to marry him 3 times.
Yep, there’s a story there.
🙂
I’m still undecided about the romantic moment, but lamas? Really, Beth? I lived in Bolivia for about 10 years, and lamas spit! And stink. Only Beth Vogt could put lamas in a romance story!!
Teri,
The llamas are comic relief.
And they are bad-boy llamas — not the hero!
Worst romantic moment: Being on your honeymoon in 102 degree weather (after getting married outdoors) and the hotel room that you stay in that evening has a broken air conditioner! Seriously a romance killer.
Oh, Shelly.
I understand. I do, I do.
The AC broke in the chapel where I got married.
My husband was wearing full mess dress. Sweat dripped off his face — but he stood tall and straight. I finally reached up and just wiped the droplets of sweat off his face.
When we got to our hotel, we were checking in and the lights went off.
Beth, your book is making me sleepy. I stay up too late reading it! Needless to say, I’m really enjoying it. Whoo hoo for the photo taken in Charleston. My stomping grounds.
Okay, funniest romantic moment. After a muddy day of hiking with a guy, who was just a friend, I ran home, intending to join a few buddies to see the movie, Good Will Hunting. But all of them ended up backing out–all except my future husband, Jack. No time to change clothes, I show up at the theater in my flannel, T-shirt, boots and jeans with muddy paw prints on them from my puppy who got tuckered out, hiking. I see Jack waiting for me in front of the theater, wearing a long coat, nice shirt and khakis. Uh oh. I’m feeling slightly under-dressed. But, he’s too much of a gentleman to say anything.
Movie is great. Conversation, easy. Afterwards, we go to a little coffee shop. I order a mocha. Well, whipped cream can be a lot like that last piece of ice stuck in a glass. Suddenly, it comes loose. Yep, completely spilled my drink down the front of my shirt. Good thing my flannel took the brunt of it. When Jack got up to get me some napkins, I thought, “he’s never going to want to go out with me! Not after this!” Luckily, I was wrong.
Marney,
I do thank you for clarifying why my book is making you sleepy! I kinda stopped breathing there for a minute …
And your romantic moment: so, so novel worthy.
🙂
Congrats to Danielle! 🙂
Mine isn’t really a romantic moment…well…it’s more a dating moment. I was on a blind ‘date’ with a guy. My anxiety got the better of me at one point and he had to pull over so I could proceed to toss my cookies. *sighs* Yes these are the moments one dreams of for a 1st date to be, right? LOL Oh well he was basically a jerk so I’m glad I barfed on my ‘date’ with him. Too bad I didn’t barf in his truck. That would have been stellar…but ya know…I’m polite and all that and held it til he could pull over….lol. 🙂
Oh I forgot a HUUUUUUUUUUGE congrats on your debut novel Ms Vogt! 🙂
Thank you!
🙂
I guess that would be a combo worst/best moment, eh, Mippy?
😉
My best romantic moment was getting my promise ring from my boyfriend last year. We’ve been a couple 4 years this November, and we plan to get married after University!
Congratulations, Angel!

I’m not sure if this is funny or romantic, but I wanted to share the way my husband proposed to me.
We went to the beach for the weekend with his mother and aunt. The next morning, he came down the hall to check on me and asked if I slept well. I told him I’d had some weird dreams that night. When he asked what kind of dreams, I hesitated telling him but after a little bit of cajoling, I finally told that I’d dreamt he proposed.. His response was, “Well, will ya?”
He later told me that he had dreamed the same thing. We didn’t know whether to chalk it up to the Lord’s leading or bad seafood, but it “took.” (I claim the former.) Either way we’ll celebrate our 24th anniversary this December.
Oh. My. Word.
You both dreamed the same thing?
I call that a God-dream.
Really, really, really.
I call that divine.
Wow.
Yeah, I think you’re right. God knew we both needed a little bit of a push. 🙂
One of my funniest/embarrassing romantic moments was when my husband flew me to San Francisco while he was there on business. We were still dating at the time. We ended up on a hill overlooking the Golden Gate where he pulled out a small box. I wasn’t thinking proposal. I was thinking that he was going to show me some jewelry his grandfather had made before he died. (He really loved his grandpa!) I seriously thought it was a pair of cuff links! I looked closer and realized it was an engagement ring. I felt like a total dork.
Love this, Carrie.
Cuff links = engagement ring.
🙂
Best romantic moment was our daughter’s home birth. My hubby was great that day. He walked with me in the rain during contractions. He went on a run to Panera to get me the smoothie I was craving. He ran around “like a chicken with its head cut off” trying to get the birth pool set up and rub my back and heat water and take pictures all at once.

Tiffany,
This is true love in action.
I have a great story…starts out wrong, but ends great:) I was coerced into a blind date…my first date after a very painful divorce. So, since I hadn’t dated in so long, I had a friend lined up to go with me. She cancelled at the last minute, so I had to find someone else to go with me. Well, that took forever! Needless to say, I was a little late (about 2-3 hours). I had never met the guy…said he was going to be wearing a plaid shirt. I eyed every guy in the place in a plaid shirt, but none were him:( The next day, my cousin (who had set up the blind date – his boss) called me and he was furious! Said I stood the guy up…no, he stood me up…I showed up, I was just late. I never expected to hear from him again, but a month later he called and we set up our own date. We’ve been married 15 years…and still talk about our first date and who stood who up:)
Oh. My. Word.
This is hysterical, Sandra!
Maybe not our worst, but I can’t think 34 years back, so here’s our most recent bad date. We visited a local restaurant that my husband and I have been curious about for a while, but we’d never heard anything about. Now we know why. We sat outside under a covered porch and ate by candlelight. The waiter was dressed in black pants and a pressed white shirt with a tie … everything was looking perfect. We asked what he suggested and he talked on and on about their fresh baked melt-in-your-mouth rolls (packaged and chewy) served with real butter (not sure what that yellow stuff was), delicious crab (we think it was krab), steaks cooked perfectly (or till they’re shoe leather), and homemade desserts to die for (right out of the freezer section at Food Lion). You’re probably wondering why we fell for dessert? We were trying to salvage the evening! We didn’t ever complain because it’s probably the most fun we’ve had in a long time, laughing about the faux fancy restaurant, the waiter’s denial and the really bad food. Okay, so it was our best worst funniest date in a long time … thanks for a chance to win. : )
Kim:
You got it all rolled into one, didn’t you: best/worst/funniest …
This isnt actually a funny but romantic, atleast I think it is.
My husband drove 385 miles to spend the night with me when I had to stay out of town once. I told him I felt so alone where I was and the next day he showed up!
I don’t think I would consider it romantic but it was definitely funny, when I was dating a boy after high school we went to a park as a date (Oddly enough, I’ve been to many dates at playgrounds) and we were just talking about defense mechanisms and I mentioned I laugh when I get hurt. Well not 2 minutes later we were goofing off and running up the slide and I slipped and ended up falling down the slide, I didn’t get hurt but it was way to funny not to laugh, the poor guy wasn’t sure how to respond considering our previous conversation.
can’t think of a clever romantic moment, but I’d love a chance to win the prize
I don’t know if you will think this is romantic or not, but when I meet my wife I asked her to marry me for the weekend and she said it’s already Saturday. So I said then we should hurry . We were married four months later. and the weekend is still not over twenty two years later.
My worst romantic moment was probably the night before my wedding. My soon-to-be husband and I were playing Cribbage and he WOULD NOT let me go to sleep until he beat me at cribbage. We played until about 2 AM the morning of our wedding… but that is one thing we love about each other. We always try to help each other get better and we know if we finally win, it is because we deserved it. We have been married 13 years and working our way on 14 years. I love that man more today than I did the day of our wedding.
One of the funny romantic things my husband did when we were first dating, over 37 years ago, was when he picked me up, and we were talking. He said that he bet he could make our song, My Love does it good by the Beatles, come on the radio when he wanted.
Of course I said something like oh sure go ahead. Needless to say he had a cassette tape ready to play with just that one song on. He just had to push play. Just one of the nice things he has done for me.
Here’s my worst romantic moment:
When my husband and I married (We both had been married before and both of our spouses cheated on us and put us down quite often. To set the scene we both had low self esteems!) I was excited and couldn’t wait for my husband to see what I would be wearing for our wedding night. I wanted him to think I was the prettiest thing he’d ever seen. His ex had put him down so bad in the romantic department that he was scared he wouldn’t pass in my eyes in the romance department. Needless to say seeing me put a lot of pressure on him and the romance was ruined. We did learn a lot about each other that night and everything turned out o.k. after all. We now laugh about it but it wasn’t funny 8 years ago! In our marriage we build each other up and never tear each other down. God has played a big role in that.
Blessings!
My husband isn’t a real romantic person so I can’t say I have any best ofs or bloopers.

What fun giveaways and I’m so enjoying the best, worst, and funniest romantic moments. Let me share mine. In hindsight, I’ve come to think of this as the best Valentine’s Day present ever! In 1998, I was diagnosed with leukemia. I had been married to my wonderful hubby, Roger, for 10 years and we had certainly never been through anything so challenging. On Dec. 14th, 1998, I entered Emory Hospital in Atlanta. On the 21st, I had a bone marrow transplant. I stayed in the Hospital until January 6th, when my mother and I (she had come to be my patient advocate while my hubby continued to work elsewhere in GA) moved to Hope Lodge…a facility for patients near the Hospital. Eventually, mom went home to NJ and Roger moved into the Lodge to assume care duties–taking me to all of my doctor visits and infusion treatments, etc. I had TWO wishes at this point (other than getting well, of course)…I wanted to FLOSS (too much risk of infection–no flossing!) and I wanted to GO HOME. I thought that my hubby was arranging a weekend visit home for Valentine’s Day (Valentine’s Day was on a Sunday in 1999) and I was so happy he when he told me he had arranged it. What I didn’t know was that the plan was not just a weekend visit, but to move out of the Lodge and back home, which we did on February 13th, 1999. I may have been in a chemo fog for Christmas 1998 and New Year’s 1999, but I will ALWAYS remember Valentine’s Day, 1999!
I recovered completely and my hubby and I are still happily together…and we’ve not had anything else like that happen to us, thankfully. I don’t get flowers, or candy, or jewelry, but when my fella does wonderfully thoughtful romantic things like this, I can’t help but love him!
We went to Vegas for a weekend getaway. While there we made reservations to have dinner at BOA one night. After we ate our main course I decided to bring up the fact that it was silly to be calling each other boy friend girlfriend as we had been together 8 yrs , had 2 kids and a house. I went on with saying that there should be a name for people like us who are beyond dating but not engaged. I turned to get my wine and when I turned back he had a ring out and said how being called fiance? I said yes! He was sure my oldest daughter or mother had told me bfore we lft since he showed them the ring and I had brought up the whole name thing., I assured him they didn’t and we spent the rest of the night celebrating.
My Funnest most romantic moment -Totally no made up!! we had just started dating and we were watching a movie at my house, we the VCR fell, and we both went to get it we came up knocked heads and started at each other forever it felt like – I think we both knew the was the one God wanted us to meet. We Married in November and will celebrate 10 years this november! – Truth that happened -No Kiss just oops and back to movie.
I would really love to with this contest
A funny yet not so funny moment was walking in the evening with a new beau. We were chatting away getting to know one another and a car went by and backfired. I was down on the ground cover by the 6’6″ in. guy!! It happened so fast. I found out that it was one on the residual reactions from being in war. He was protecting me! Needless to say, 4th of July was not a good day for him.
My husband asked me to marry him after knowing each other for about 3 weeks. He hadn’t even told me he loved me yet. Next month we celebrate our 24th anniversary.
Every minute I spend with my husband,my soul mate is precious. We have been married 34 years and our love just continues to grow stronger with each passing day.I have so many memories, but if I had to pick just one,it would be when we went on a anniversary trip for the first time without our children. This was the first time my husband and I had been away together by ourselves. We didn’t have a honeymoon, money was scarce. We had always planned on our 25 anniverary we would renew our wedding vows.Well our son was in basic training with the Army on this day,and there was no way we were going do anything without him present. So we went on our little getaway and on our anniversary day,we said new vows to each other in our hotel room….just me,my husband and God present. It was a moment I will never forget.

It sounds like a great book…can’t wait to read it!
My funniest romantic moment was when my husband and I were just getting to know each other. I needed to set a rat trap in my house as we were having terrible problems with something eating the dog’s food every night. Well, my husband very gallantly said he would hold the trap’s spring while I attached the bait, but as he was doing that his hand slipped and the trap closed onto my thumb!! He felt so terrible about it and we still laugh today that despite his “gallantry” I still married him!
For Valentine’s Day in 2001 we had decided we weren’t going to do anything. We were in college and broke and so on. Hubby left super early for work and when I got up, I walked out into the living room to find Hershey’s Kisses trailing from our room, down the hall and to the coffee table in the living room. On the table was I <3 U in different candies. There was a teddy bear with balloons and a card. In the card it said:
Now that I've kissed the ground you walk on, will you be my Valentine?
/big happy waffy sigh/
But I had nothing to give back to him. So I did what any woman would do.
I took a pregnancy test.
We'd been trying for about six months and I really, really didn't expect it to come back positive but it did. So that evening when he came home I gave him a book sort of like a dad's version of what to expect when you're expecting that I'd had for a while for just such an occasion.
I think I surprised him more than he surprised me ;).
Either way – best Valentine's ever.
I think in my life the best romantic moment was when I met my husband/best friend and soulmate. I couldnt ask for more…..
Beth The worst time was when I finally got to double date with my older sister. Her date was a pipeliner, and brought a young man with him. I was so happy to get to go with them, but all during the car time, he kept nibbling on my ears. I wanted so bad to get home, so when we finally got to the house, I just got out quick and ran in the house. She really laughed at me when she found out my problem. Most romantic was when my date took me out to eat at a fancy restaurant in downtown Houston. He kept telling me I was going to see a pink elephant. Sure enough when we got there, here was this huge statue of a large Pink elephant. LOL When we went inside, it was large, and oval shaped with low lights, all waiters(O waitresses), and the meat was brought on a tray and cooked at the table, Delicious! On each part of the wall was different animals. It was “The Safari.” I had never been anywhere like this and was very romantic. Would love to win this contest! Maxie ( mac262@me.com ) Congratulations on your book!

Hi Beth,
Freakiest “romantic” moment ever – I thought it was freaky, he thought it was romantic – I went on a blind lunch date (picnic at a park) with a guy my friend set me up with. I was 17 and he was 27 or 28. He wouldn’t stop staring “longingly” at me the whole time, and I was so uncomfortable. Finally, as I began to make excuses to go, he grabbed my hand and told me that he was enraptured by me (his word), that he was drowning in my eyes, and that the Lord told him we were going to married. He then proceeded to tell me that I was like his China doll and that he wanted to put me up on his mantle so that he could stare at me all day long. I don’t remember how I got out of there but I was really freaked out. I still get weirded out by porcelain dolls, especially when I see them on a mantle…….
Lots of best romantic moments with my husband or 24 years – he does things like bringing me coffee in the mornings, fresh-picked flowers in the shower, and more, but the thing that has come to be the most important – and hence, the most romantic – is that he prays with me every morning and every night, without fail. Those prayers were hard won – we couldn’t do it for many years – but now they’re precious.
Would love a chance to win your book! And the gift card would be perfect for taking my champion out for a little romance!
This is a story I heard from my aunt. It was Valentines Day and the current boyfriend seemed to have absolutely no plans for the day. So one of her friend’s decided to take her to a nice dinner… at McDonalds. He asked the cashier, “Please see us to our table”.
Hi! Great post and huge congrats Danielle!!
I dont really have a romantic story. My parents were very strict and dating wasnt aloud. Im now 21, very shy and not out there. But i do have one cute story. I worked for a hospital as a nurses aid and i had this little old lady i was taking care of. She was so cute and sweet. We got along great. She informed me: “Darling, so are so sweet and adorable. Im gonna let you marry my grandson. You have my permission.” lol I didnt know how to respond. I laughed, told her thanks and id think about the offer. First though, i think i need to meet him and him me. lol She says: ” Dont worry. I gave my permission. Thats what counts.” I died laughing. She was so funny!! Later the next day, she wanted to do something, i cant remember what but she wasnt allowed, the doctors and nurses said ‘NO’. She was so mad at me, she told me: “Your not allowed in my family anymore. You’ve disappointed me. Your not for my grandson.” Then she shakes her head at me. lol I think she wanted to go outside. Cant remember. But i do remember her facial expressions and how funny she was. Needless to say, she stayed miffed at me and i never did meet or marry her grandson. lol

My dad was very ill and my husband was planning on proposing to me. He wasn’t sure if he should do it because of the situation. So he asked my dad for permission to marry me and my dad was happy, even though he was in such pain, it put a smile on his sweet face. He suggested that he take me to Descanso Gardens to propose. It was one of his favorite places. So later that afternoon, I was asked to go on a drive with my boyfriend. I really didn’t want to leave my dad, but my dad told me I should go. We drove to Descanso Gardens and my boyfriend told me that my dad told him to take my there. It was beautiful. We walked and enjoyed the the flowers. We came across a creek and sat for a few minutes and my boyfriend got down on one knee and proposed. He told me of the conversation with my dad. Of course I said yes! It was a happy moment during a very sad time of my life. It was wonderful to have my dad be a huge part of my engagement. He passed away a few weeks later, but I have those memories forever. My husband and I have been married 19 years and have 3 amazing kids.
Congrats on the debut….
I am a senior and not many romantic moments have came my way since I was shy in school and for many years, I am a follower and not a mover and shaker.
I guess the thing that touched my heart was when I met a fella after being divorced for 3 yrs and he and I went to florida to disney world for weekend and then on Monday at work again I received a beautiful bouquet of Red Roses and a thank you for the wonderful weekend we had. My first for that type thing to happen and brought tears to my eyes-I told the supervisor who brought them to me they must be for someone else -I dont get flowers….

Best Romantic Moment was when my husband to be came visiting with 3 books in the left behind series, I don’t know who told him that was the way to get me into a conversation, but it worked.
